David Porter, MD, PhD

Over the years, Dr. David Porter has taken every opportunity to learn about foot and ankle injuries and to share what he learns through publications and presentations.

After his undergraduate studies, he continued on to Ball State University, earning a doctorate in human bioenergetics (exercise and muscle performance physiology). Dr. Porter’s interest in orthopedics took him on to medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine, after which he interned at Methodist Hospital of Indiana and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wright State University in Dayton.

He continued to gain experience in additional care settings, undertaking a three-month foot and ankle specialty rotation under James Amis, MD, in Cincinnati and a 12-month foot and ankle fellowship at the Foundation for Orthopedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research in Houston with Dr. Donald Baxter and Dr. Tom Clanton.

Active in the presentation and publication of research regarding sports-related foot and ankle injuries, Dr. Porter serves as a peer reviewer for national and international medical journals.

Dr Porter was recognized in 2012 in the April 23rd edition of Street & Smith’s Sports Business Daily Journal as a leading specialist as it pertains to foot and ankle sports injuries and conditions. Dr Porter serves as the Foot and Ankle consultant to the Indianapolis Colts, Purdue University, Butler University and DePauw University. He is also a frequent consultant to teams in the NBA and NFL. He is co-author of Baxter’s: The Foot and Ankle in Sports (2nd and 3rd ed).

Dr. Porter builds his own strength and agility by exercising and playing golf. He’s also actively involved in the Indianapolis community and local charities. A native of Madisonville, Kentucky, he and his wife Dr. Theresa M. Porter, MD are the proud parents of two daughters.
